Intramural Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences Program

Selection

Selection Process

  1. iCURE reviews applications to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
  2. A selection committee, consisting of NCI scientist and staff, will evaluate and select eligible applications on the following basis:
    1. Personal statement
    2. Research Interest/Experience
    3. Letters of Reference
  3. Applications that pass the initial evaluation are invited for a virtual interview with the iCURE Team and NCI staff, to learn more about an applicant’s skills and interests, including things the applicant may not have been able to include or reflect in an application.

Final selection for these positions will be based solely on merit, with no discrimination for non-merit reasons, such as race, color, gender, national origin, age, religion, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability. NIH provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you need reasonable accommodation during any part of the application and hiring process, please notify us. The decision on granting reasonable accommodation will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

NIH/NCI is an equal opportunity employer.

Notification

Applicants are notified via email of the selection decision at each stage of the selection process.

Interviews and Acceptance

Selected applicants will arrange interviews with NCI scientists and staff between notification of selection for an interview and the end of May. Once complete, both the applicant and the investigators will submit rankings based on their interviews. Formal acceptance and an offer from the program and investigator require mutual matching between the applicant and the NCI scientist.

Start of Appointment

iCURE scholars will begin their research experience in September after the completion of the NIH OITE mandatory orientation.

Fellowship Requirements

Once the fellowship begins, all fellows are expected to attend and actively participate in various program activities to include campus orientations, Lunch and Learns, mentor mixers, etc.

More information about the above requirements is discussed at the first orientation event, held within 1-month of onboarding.
