Intramural Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences Program

To be eligible to participate in the iCURE program, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Must be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or non-citizen national*
• *Non-citizen national describes individuals that are native to an American territorial possession and have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States. Please refer to the US Department of State for additional clarification.

Refer to the details below to determine your eligibility or the research experience you'll be applying to start when you come to NCI.

Postbaccalaureate individuals (including post-masters individuals)

• Must either
  • Be a college graduate who received a bachelor's degree within three years of beginning the program;
  • or have received a master's degree within six months before beginning the program.
• Must be available for a 1-year or 2-year fellowship, beginning by September 1, 2027.

Graduate students

• Be pursuing a PhD, DPhil, PharmD, DPH, PsyD, MD/PhD and enrolled and in good academic standing in accredited doctoral program in the U.S. or abroad.
• Have permission from your university graduate program to participate in the program and to relocate to an NIH campus for the duration of your individual agreement program.

Graduate students will be required to participate in the Graduate Partnership Program, through either an Individual Partnership or Institutional Partnership. Please review the program website to understand expectations clearly. You will be required to meet all the academic requirements of your graduate program while doing your dissertation research at NIH. It is crucial that you fully understand the structure and the expectations for your specific partnership as you will be required to spend time on both campuses.

Postdoctoral fellows

• Individuals must have acquired a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., D.M.D., D.V.M. or equivalent doctoral degree in a biomedical, behavioral, or related science; or certification by a university as meeting all the requirements leading to such a doctorate by the start of the iCURE Program.
• Must have less than 5 years of relevant postdoctoral research experience since the receipt of the most recent doctoral degree.
• Must be available for a 3-year fellowship to begin preferably by September 1, 2027 but no later than December 31, 2027.

In order to be approved for logical and physical access to NIH facilities and systems, candidates must be able to pass a federal background check.
