The Train at NCI website is operated by the National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Training (CCT). We respect the privacy of our visitors. The following privacy policy establishes how Train at NCI will use information gathered from your visit to our site.

If You Visit the Train at NCI Website

We collect and store access information for statistical purposes. Registration / Log In

Before you can apply to NCI training programs or access any protected content on the Train at NCI website, you must have obtained a login service account at one of the authorized identity providers: Login.gov, the NIH Login, or the IMS ADFS. When you log in to Train at NCI using one of these methods, your name, email, and login service ID will be transmitted to Train at NCI. This personal information may be used to contact you regarding your account.

Additionally, if you are logging in with the NIH Login, information will be obtained from the NIH Enterprise Directory, including your institute, organizational path, and phone number. This information will be used to verify access requests by NCI staff.

If you Apply to a Training Program or Access Protected Content

If you choose to create an application, you will be required to provide personal information including (but not limited to) name, email, phone number, mailing address, citizenship/visa type, educational history, and transcripts. You may optionally provide your sex, race, and ethnicity.

The primary use of information collected via Train at NCI is to evaluate an applicant’s qualifications for research training at NCI at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Information may be used during admission consideration; in preparing appointment paperwork; and to provide data for training program evaluation. Information will be disclosed to CCT staff and contractors who administer and operate the system, NCI staff working on behalf of an NCI training program, reviewers evaluating applications, and investigators interested in interviewing candidates. Additional disclosures may be made to law enforcement agencies concerning violations of law or regulation. Application for this program is voluntary; however, in order for NCI to process an application, the applicant must complete the required fields.

The legislative authorities for this training initiative are as follows:

  1. Section 405 (b) (1) (C) of the Public Health Service Act, 42 USC 284 (b) (1) (C), as amended, which authorizes Directors of each national research institute to conduct and support research training for which fellowship support is not provided under section 487 and which is not residency training of physicians or other health professionals.
  2. Section 413 (b) (3) of the Public Health Service Act, 42 USC 285a-2 (b) (3), as amended pertaining to the National Cancer Institute, which states that the Director, NCI, in carrying out the National Cancer Program ... shall ... "support appropriate programs of education and training (including continuing education and laboratory and clinical research training)".
